RERUIEM FOR CHARLIE HEBDO

The violence in France on 7 of January shocked the world. Twelve people were killed, including Charlie Hebdo‘s lead cartoonist, Cabu (Jean Cabut), journalists Charb (Stephane Charbonnier), Tignous (Bernard Verlhac), and Georges Wolinski were also among victims. Their work illuminated many social-justice causes.

Fashion designers express their position and solidarity with journalists.

Jean Paul Gaultier published a picture of himself and his team holding signs that read “Je suis Charlie,” and Julien David posted a variation of the same slogan on Instagram. Riccardo Tisci, Carine Roitfeld and Kris Van Assche posted a Voltaire’s quote : “I do not agree with what you have to say, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it.” Maxime Simoëns and Julien David published variations of the black, white and gray logo.

Karl Lagerfeld told WWD: “It’s horrible. I’ve been physically sick since Wednesday ; I think it’s very bad for the image of Paris, though I’m very much against French bashing. Perhaps we all do like Galliano and do something else”. John Galliano’s decision to represent his debut collection for the Maison Martin Margiela in London instead of Paris created quite a ruffle in certain circles. Although personally I see this statement is not correct for such a situation. Terrorist attack can not be an occasion to speak to the world about the actions of their colleagues. Even if one from these gives a reasons for damnation.However, I totally agree with Karl’s opinion: “You realize fashion is a beautiful bubble in the world”

Owner of his label and c reative director of Dior Homme Kris Van Assche, declared WWD: “Freedom of expression is a core value of our civilization and is central to any kind of creation, from comics to fashion. Beyond the horror and the shock of Wednesday’s dreadful news, freedom is at stake. As a citizen, as well as a creative director, I shall stand for it.”

In this month in Paris , Fédération Française de la Couture, du Prêt-à-Porter des Couturiers et des Créateurs de Mode is going to represented 2 important events: men’s fashion week and haute couture week. “The best response to these disgusting murders is international solidarity and the determination to show that life must go on and that these mad men’s actions will have no further impact,” said executive president of the Fédération Stéphane Wargnier. He persuaded that the federation has not received any orders to take specific security measures.

“This is up to the fashion houses to decide, and they will not shout it from the rooftops,” he also noticed.
