FASHION FORWARD: 3 CENTURIES OF FASHION 1715-2016 – M– USEE ART DECORATIFS
Musee des Art decoratifs presented exhibition “Fashion forward, 3 siecles de Mode (Fashion forward: 3 centuries of Fashion 1715-2016) from 7 of April to 14 of August 2016, in Paris. The Musee des Arts Decoratifs is exposing its fabulous fashion collection to mark the 30th anniversary of its fashion branch the Musee des Arts de la Mode (now the Musee de la Mode et du Textile), opened in 1986 at the initiative of Pierre Berge and French textile industry. The exhibition includes 300 pieces of women’s fashion, men’s and child of the XVIII th century to nowdays, from its funds, put together to draw an original chronology.
This is great opportunity to admire an outstanding exposition of fashion and textiles. Ahead the technology, materials and design, fashion is an art and a story of time and reflection of a lifestyle. “These show both the court’s clothing, but also sports clothes, pieces for everyday, for the morning to the afternoon to the evening for the grand-evening … the idea was to show the icons pieces of the collection” said Pamela Golbin, general curator at the museum of Decorative Arts. The exhibition features exclusive haute couture and ready-to-wear designs, with a focus on iconic couturiers such as Jeanne Lanvin, Gabrielle Chanel, Christian Dior and Yves Saint-Laurent, Madeleine Vionnet, Paul Poiret, Elsa Schiaparelli, Jean Patou, Thierry Mugler, Claude Montana and others genius of fashion. British choreographer and dancer Christopher Wheeldon, the artistic director of the exhibition, has interpreted these creations, he is using dancers’ postures to spread the appeal of the designs when they are worn. By the way, Swedish brand H&M is sponsoring the exhibition, and will be presenting a special collection titled “Conscious Exclusive” inspired by the museum’s pieces.
